Recently I stumbled upon a quite funny rumor about European guys by Asian girls.
Switch your dirty mind off I'm not going to talk about presumably preeminent differences in male anatomy. Sorry to disappoint, but I'm sure the internet is chock-full of places with statistics related to that.[^1]
No this rumor is about our Acanthous Hair!
Yes you read that right. My hard pointy European hair will supposedly hurt the super soft milky white skin of my cute girlfriend when cuddeling or kissing -- and we all know Europeans like to cuddle and kiss all the time, so this is might be a real problem.
How true is it?
Compared to the average japanese guy I'm an ape. There are lots of tiny hairs on my arms and legs, many Europeans even have fur on their breast and back and don't even get me started about the face. Some of us have to shave twice per day to keep their beard under control![^2]
The good news is that European hair is -- compared to the average Japanese hair -- super soft. ふわふわ just like that of a pet rabbit.[^3] Sometimes I felt like the main attraction in a petting zoo, but from time to time it's actually kind of funny to indulge in things like this.
Since this rumor is exactly the opposite from the truth I'm left wondering how it got started. Maybe some asian guy tried to keep his girlfriend from touching these oh so cute Europeans. Sadly I'll probably never know for sure.
[^1]: in case you are not the reading type I'm equally sure you will easily find some pictures to illustrate these things.
[^2]: If you kiss an European guy on the cheek and it feels like you just rubbed against a running sander feel free to tell him to shave -- unless you like to make out with power tools that is.
[^3]: I know some Chinese girls dissected pet rabbits in High School, so let's not drive that analogy to far -- shall we?
Or: Why I just know that Aperture was programmed by a man
The new version of Aperture -- my photo organizing software -- is out for some time now and it brought a slew of new features such as facial recognition or geo-tagging.[^1]
The first time you start up the face recognition it takes ages to scan through all the photos, but after more than 10 hours all my faces on the photos were found and I just had to give them names.
The result was amazing and well worth the wait! Not only did it catch (most) of the persons in the photos, no it also managed to identify the important features and only highlight them.
This effect can be seen in the photo above.[^2] Give me the face of the girl on the left and I probably have a hard time remembering her name, but from the shot of the breast -- of course I know her!
Just to clarify the full photo actually contains the face of the girl as well, but Aperture thinks the most important part to recognize her are the breasts and therefore only highlights them.
This is why I love Apple products. They are not only innovative, no they go the extra mile to please the customers.[^3]
[^1]: Geo-tagging let's you assign a photo to the place where it was taken -- very nice for holiday snapshots in a foreign country
[^2]: "Ohne Namen" just means "not named yet"
[^3]: I have a MacBookPro and an iPhone and I hate their closed source approach, but sadly there is no Aperture for Linux. Otherwise I'd have switched back long ago.
As you surely have noticed by now the new blog is up and running.
Yes I decided to switch again! This being my fourth blog engine in 5 years or so, I don't make any promises to stay with Habari any longer than any engine before.
Why did I decide to switch to Habari?
- Very clean code
- Nice database layout
- Easy and powerful way to create themes[^1]
- lightweight and fast
Drupal is great -- if you want to start the next facebook -- but I have a handful of readers, I'm the only one posting here and my brothers are not interested in starting their own blogs, so it clearly was overkill.
I've deleted all the old users -- people didn't log in half the time anyway and there really is no need to do so to just leave a comment. The old posts are imported[^2] but the conversion script for special characters, links and pictures was hacked together by myself, so I fully expect many things to be broken. If you find something not working please write me a mail.
I hope you enjoy the new blog as much as I do. I'll try to post a bit more often from now on.
[^1]: Ok honestly the problem never was the theme engine but almost always my design skills.
[^2]: Even some of those that didn't make it on drupal.
