Still in Japan

The other day I was on Skype with a friend from Austria, when suddenly she asked me if I wanted to go for a beer tonight — Yea why not. If you come to Tokyo I’d love to meet up.

Turns out she is not coming to Japan in the foreseeable future, but there is a rumor, that I’m already back and just failed to mention it to anyone. So for anyone believing I’d pass up the chance of a nice welcome back party, just to not get in touch with you anymore — tough luck I’ll surely have one — I’ll most likely invite you and then after the party I might break all contact, because I can’t stand you Europeans anymore.

That being said my farewell-Labparty here in Japan is on the 18th of September — incidentally the day that Japan invaded China — after that on the 19th I’ll hold my farewell party where all my friends minus professors hopefully come.1 then a bit of travel in Japan, followed by boarding the smallest, most fragile looking fishing boat I can find to cross over to China. Once arrived I want to travel around for a bit, enjoy the country, relive some movie scenes and see the big parade on October the 1st.

I’ve been told, that this parade is going to be a big one. A round anniversary of some event or another on the Tiananmen Square2 — my Chinese friends already vowed to watch the event on television if I show up with my camera and activate their underground links to get me out of prison if not.

So basically all that remains to be done is getting a Visa for China, permission to go to Bejing and the Tiananmen Square on the designated day and get some great photos of one of the beast military parades in the world. They just don’t hold them that cool in other countries any more.

As a sidenote:
Originally I wanted to go to North Korea, but some of my friends strongly advised against it. China seems so much more liberal with it’s Internet Cafes and mostly unrestricted movement and although I have to admit, that I still can’t pronounce the difficult words such as “yes”, “no” or “together” in Chinese, my mastery of “Good day” and Chinese girls’ names will surly make my survival very easy!

Oh and there are some new photos on my Flickr account

  1. might turn out that I actually have fewer friends than expected

    Let me think…
Last time I used Japanese words that I though were common knowledge I got complains. How was I to know you know Chinese so much better than Japanese?

Well anyway I’m sorry if my boorish comments have insulted you. I should have knownhow well versed in Asian culture and politics you are.
(At least compared to me, who thought the advertising for the election was a radical Muslim prompting the heathens to convert and reminding the true believers that it’s time for the morning prayer)

To compare “Japanese words that are common knowledge” with “Tiananmen” is a bit far fetched.

And what was boorish in your comments?

"But I don't want to go among mad people," Alice remarked.
"Oh, you can't help that," said the Cat: "we're all mad here. I'm mad. You're mad."
"How do you know I'm mad?" said Alice.
"You must be," said the Cat, "or you wouldn't have come here."
